Innovative hybrid/weekend format addresses shortage of occupational therapists in New York region; inaugural cohort to begin Spring 2027.

��app has launched an Entry-Level Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD) Program, positioning the institution to help fill the growing demand for occupational therapists across the New York region. Designed with working professionals in mind, the new program’s hybrid/weekend model directly addresses the workforce shortage while opening pathways to doctoral education for individuals who might otherwise be unable to pursue advanced degrees.

“This program represents ��app's continued commitment to expanding access to high-quality healthcare education,” said Kristin Curry Greenwood, PT, DPT, EdD, MS, FNAP, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs at ��app. “Traditional full-time programs simply aren't compatible with working adult lives. Our hybrid/weekend model changes that equation entirely allowing students to continue earning income, supporting their families and maintaining their careers while gaining the advanced training our communities need.”

The 85-credit, full-time program features classes scheduled approximately every other weekend over nine trimesters, with state-of-the-art hands-on learning experiences complemented by synchronous and asynchronous coursework. This innovative structure allows students to complete their doctoral education in as little as three years.

Building on 30 years of occupational therapy education at Mercy, the OTD program prepares graduates to work with people of varying diagnoses including people living with spinal cord injuries, cancer, stroke, autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delay and many other conditions and illnesses. Graduates are prepared as generalists, enabling them to work in a variety of practice settings including hospitals, rehabilitation centers and schools.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, occupational therapy careers are expected to grow 17% through 2028, with occupational therapists in the New York region earning an average salary of $88,000.

Applications for the Spring 2027 term are currently being accepted, with a deadline of October 30, 2026. Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and complete prerequisite coursework including anatomy and physiology, developmental psychology abnormal psychology and statistics.

��app will host a free screening of the critically acclaimed independent film “Martyr of Gowanus” on Friday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. The screening launches the Art Exchange at ��app (“ArtEx”), a new initiative designed to strengthen cultural connections between the university and local River Towns communities.

“Mercy is so honored by this opportunity to have our audience experience this important story, not only as our inaugural ArtEx launch, but as a way to be together in our collective remembrance, in the September of the 25th anniversary of the attacks that changed so much of America," said Professor Marc Palmieri, co-director of ArtEx at ��app.

The “Martyr of Gowanus,” starring Sawyer Spielberg (son of Steven Spielberg), who also serves as executive producer, has earned awards at festivals including Golden Door, Julien Dubuque and Syracuse International Film Festivals ahead of its 2027 theatrical release. Set in the working-class Brooklyn neighborhood of Gowanus in 2001, the film follows Gavin (Spielberg) as he searches for connection and meaning in a rapidly changing world. While pursuing a relationship with a local Dominican girl, Mercedes, Gavin develops a friendship with her teenaged brother, Angel. The friendships are rocked in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, as local communities grapple with fear, anger, reactionary racism and uncertainty. Gavin’s sense of isolation intensifies, while Angel falls into the grip of a local criminal gang.

INDIEWRAP praised the film as a “bold, profoundly human work,” noting that “its stylistic blend of fiction and real historical events sets the film apart. By incorporating footage from 9/11 and the early 2000s, the film roots its story in reality while exploring its emotional truths through narrative. The result is a unique, hybrid approach that aims to ground the viewer in time and place.”

Long Island native Brian Meere, who wrote and directed the film, will participate in a Q&A session immediately following the 87-minute screening, offering Westchester audiences exclusive insight into the film's unique blend of narrative fiction and historical documentary footage.

Community members, media and representatives from local arts organizations are invited to attend the screening.

The initiative aims to host visiting creators, showcase faculty artists and provide students with expanded access to professional arts programming beyond the classroom.

“ArtEx represents our commitment to being an active cultural partner in Westchester," said Susan L. Parish, Ph.D., M.S.W., president of ��app. “This initiative bridges our campus with the broader community, showcasing the exceptional creative work happening here while inviting our neighbors to engage with the arts in new and accessible ways. Mercy faculty members Dr. Kristen Keckler and Professor Marc Palmieri, who will serve as co-directors of the initiative, will lead the effort to strengthen ties between the university and local arts organizations while enhancing student cultural experiences.

Dr. Harris-Madden serves as Commissioner of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and is an appointed member of Governor Kathy Hochul’s administration. With over 3500 employees and a budget of close to $8 billion, Dr. Harris-Madden leads the state agency responsible for promoting the safety, permanency, and well-being of children, families, and communities across New York. Her appointment to ��app’s Board of Trustees represents a homecoming for the distinguished alumna, who earned both a Master of Science in Human Resource Management and a Master of Business Administration from ��app.

Under Dr. Harris-Madden’s leadership, OCFS is advancing evidence-informed reforms across childcare, child welfare, juvenile justice, and the broad spectrum of human services the agency provides. She has played a key role in implementing Governor Hochul’s historic plan to expand access to childcare across New York State while ensuring significant public investments strengthen opportunities for children, families, and communities.

With more than 20 years of executive leadership spanning state government, local government, education, and the nonprofit sector, Dr. Harris-Madden has dedicated her career to improving outcomes for children, youth, and families. Prior to joining Governor Hochul’s administration, she held positions within the cabinets of the Westchester County Executive and four mayors in the City of Mount Vernon, NY. Dr. Chabot brings decades of surgical excellence and healthcare innovation to the Board. As founder and director of the Pancreas Center at Columbia/NewYork-Presbyterian—established in 2006—he has built one of the world's largest and most effective clinical cancer programs. The Center serves as both a premier treatment facility and a transformative research hub developing new pancreatic cancer therapies.

A surgeon who has performed more than 2,500 complex pancreatic procedures, Dr. Chabot has spent his entire career at Columbia/NewYork-Presbyterian, rising from intern in 1983 to chief of hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery and vice president of ColumbiaDoctors. His contributions to surgical advances have steadily improved outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients.

Dr. Chabot earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science from Tufts University and his Doctor of Medicine from Dartmouth Medical School. He is a member of several prestigious medical organizations, including the American Medical Association and the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association.

Their appointments underscore Mercy’s commitment to bringing diverse perspectives and accomplished leaders to its Board of Trustees. Their insights and experiences will support Mercy’s mission of academic excellence, innovation and service.

��app will honor the achievements of over 2,300 graduates during its 2026 Commencement, held over four ceremonies on May 20 and 21 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, N.Y. The ceremonies will feature five honorary degree recipients recognized for their exemplary leadership and professional excellence, including four who will deliver addresses to the Class of 2026.

Honorary Doctor of Commercial Science

Mark Ronquillo is the Donald P. Bellisario Professor of Practice at the Bellisario College of Communications at Penn State University, a position he assumed in 2024. Prior to joining Penn State, he served as EVP/Executive Creative Director at the New York City office of Saatchi & Saatchi, one of the world's leading international advertising agencies. Over his 15 years there, he led creative work for 12 different Procter & Gamble brands, including category leaders such as Dawn, Cascade, Swiffer, Vicks, Pepto-Bismol, Mr. Clean and Crest.

Mr. Ronquillo's 25+ year advertising career spans major agencies across the United States and internationally, including Saatchi & Saatchi, Publicis, Lowe & Partners, McCann Erickson, APL/London, BBDO West and The Richards Group. His diverse portfolio includes work for prominent brands such as Saab, Honda, Braun, Heineken, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Bacardi, Diet Coke, US Army, and Burger King.

A "writer's writer" known for his mastery of the written word, Mr. Ronquillo's creative work has earned recognition from major international award shows and publications, including Cannes, The One Show, Communication Arts, and Graphis. He has also received Effie awards for effectiveness across four different clients, demonstrating both creative excellence and measurable business impact.

Aramina Vega Ferrer, Ph.D.
Honorary Doctor of Pedagogy

Aramina Vega Ferrer, Ph.D., is a long-time Bronx resident and former associate professor of Literacy and Multilingual Studies at ��app, where she prepared teacher candidates for advanced certificates and the Master of Science program in Teaching Literacy. While at ��app, she served as chair of the Department of Literacy and Multilingual Studies and founding director of the School of Education Bronx Parent Center, a first-of-its-kind faculty-led initiative working with Bronx families and educators to increase student achievement in Pre-K–12 and ensure college access.

Dr. Ferrer brings over 30 years of K-12 teaching and leadership experience in developing and implementing innovative instructional programs for culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. Her career in the New York City school system progressed from Junior High School Teacher of Spanish and English as a Second Language to District Supervisor of Bilingual Education, culminating in her role as Elementary School Principal in the Bronx.

Dr. Ferrer was elected to the New York State Board of Regents by the New York State Legislature in March 2021 and reelected to a five-year term in March 2023, representing Judicial District 12 (The Bronx). She serves as Co-Chair of the Higher Education Committee, which oversees policy, chartering, and regulation for all postsecondary institutions in New York. Her numerous honors include the Lifetime Achievement Award from Fordham's Graduate School of Education, the Alumni Achievement Award from Lehman College and the Governor's Outstanding Hispanic Women Achievers Award.

Ena Williams, Ph.D., MBA, RN, CENP, FAAN, FADLN, FSIEN

Dr. Ena Williams is a nationally respected nursing executive and visionary leader who most recently served as Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive of Yale New Haven Health, one of the nation's premier academic health systems. Her extraordinary career spans more than four decades, beginning in Jamaica at the University Hospital of the West Indies and evolving into pioneering executive leadership. She joined Yale New Haven Hospital in 1992, progressing through roles from staff nurse to coordinator, nurse manager, and nursing director before becoming the first nurse of color to serve as Vice President, Senior Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer of Yale New Haven Hospital, and Chief Nurse Executive of the Health System.

Under Dr. Williams' leadership as hospital CNO, nursing teams achieved remarkable recognition, including an American Credentialing Center Magnet Nurse of the Year award (2022) and a Magnet Prize (2024). She spearheaded transformative initiatives including a nursing leadership academy, the first Nursing DEI task force and summit and raised philanthropic funds to support nursing and unlicensed assistive personnel. Her tenure fostered significant growth in nursing autonomy and established a strong professional governance culture across the organization.

A nationally recognized thought leader in nursing leadership, workforce development, and health equity, Dr. Williams serves as President of the Board of the American Organization of Nursing Leadership and on The Joint Commission Board of Directors. She is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Nursing and the Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing and has been honored as one of Modern Healthcare's 50 Top Clinical Executives in Healthcare (2024).

Reverend Viviana M. DeCohen '16, M.S. '18
Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters
Speaker: School of Social and Behavioral Sciences

Reverend Viviana M. DeCohen, a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran, serves as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Veterans' Services (DVS), which connects over 630,000 Veterans with the benefits, services, and support they have earned. Commissioner DeCohen oversaw the department's successful elevation from a division in April 2023, significantly expanding DVS's statewide reach. Under her leadership, DVS launched innovative outreach programs such as "Operation Find and Serve" and adopted 15 Veterans Welcome Center Digital Kiosks across New York State, which were recognized with the prestigious Abraham Lincoln Pillars of Excellence Award from the Federal VA.

Commissioner DeCohen has championed inclusive communication and dignified service delivery, leading DVS to embrace the term "for those who have served" to reach individuals who may not identify as Veterans. She launched "Operation Baby," providing essential resources such as diapers, cribs, and baby clothes through a non-social service approach, and updated the department's intake form to better address the specialized needs of Veterans and Military Families. Prior to her appointment as Commissioner, she served as Director of the Mount Vernon Veterans Service Agency, where she founded Kristyn's Closet, a Veterans' Closet that served over 3,000 Veterans within ten months and garnered significant statewide media attention.

Commissioner DeCohen holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and a master's degree in Health Service Management from Mercy College (now University), where she established two inaugural Veterans Centers and served as a Veterans Academic Advisor. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Gerontology at Concordia University, Chicago. Her dedication to ensuring Veterans have access to essential resources has earned her the affectionate title of "Mama V," and she was named a Women Veteran Trailblazer honoree by the Center for Women Veterans in 2021.

Joseph P. Carlucci, Esq.

Joseph Carlucci is Partner Emeritus at the law firm Cuddy & Feder LLP, where he was responsible for the industrial development revenue bond practice. Throughout his distinguished legal career, he represented corporations of all sizes on a full range of corporate matters, including business acquisitions and sales, partnership agreements, limited liability company operating agreements and employment contracts. Mr. Carlucci was also active in lending transactions on behalf of borrowers and lenders, and represented real estate entrepreneurs in acquisitions, sales, leasing, financing and obtaining approvals for development projects.

Mr. Carlucci is recognized as one of the region's most active counselors in industrial development agency revenue bond financing. He previously served as an agency chair before representing borrowers, underwriters and issuers in transactions throughout the New York metropolitan area and in numerous states across the country. A military veteran who served as Captain in the U.S. Army (MPC) from 1967-1969, Mr. Carlucci holds a B.A. in Economics from Georgetown University and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and was admitted to the New York Bar in 1969.

A Westchester native, Mr. Carlucci has been active in numerous civic and professional organizations including the American Bar Association, Westchester County Bar Association, Jacob Burns Film Center, Pace University School of Law, Westchester Community College Foundation Board and the White Plains and Greenburgh Urban Renewal Agencies. He served as a Mercy Trustee from 2002 to 2025, previously serving as Board Vice Chair and now as Trustee Emeritus. He was honored with the Mercy College Community Leadership Award at the 2018 Trustees' Scholarship Gala.

��app will host its 26th Annual International Film Festival from April 21-24, continuing a beloved tradition of bringing world-class cinema to the Mercy community and surrounding areas.

The four-day festival, presented by the School of Liberal Arts, is free and open to students, faculty, staff, alumni and neighboring communities. All screenings begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall on the Westchester Campus, located at 555 Broadway in Dobbs Ferry.

“For 26 years, this festival has been a cultural cornerstone for our region,” said Steven DeRosa, festival coordinator and senior lecturer for Cinema Studies at ��app. “We're proud to share this experience with our neighbors, offering exclusive viewings and meaningful conversations that bring our community together through the power of film."

Presented by Conquer The World Endurance and ��app’s Exercise Science Program, the 11th and final edition of the Conquer the Trail Race will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, marking both the conclusion of a beloved tradition and a tribute to Mercy's 75 years of transforming lives through education. All proceeds from the race will benefit Mercy's Mav Market, a judgment-free, inclusive and confidential resource that provides nutritious food and personal care items at no cost to anyone in the Mercy community experiencing food insecurity.

“This race represents everything Mercy stands for," said Amanda Bireline, associate professor of Health and Exercise Science at ��app. "For 75 years, we've believed in removing barriers to success. The Conquer the Trail Race continues that tradition by bringing our community together to support students facing food insecurity—ensuring they can focus on their education, not their next meal."

Throughout the 2025-2026 academic year, ��app has hosted a series of special events designed to bring together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and surrounding communities. The Conquer the Trail Race represents the University's belief that education extends beyond the classroom and that community partnerships create lasting impact.

The commemorative 7.5K run will feature a flat, fast out-and-back course along the scenic Croton Aqueduct Trail, with the distance specially chosen to honor the University's 75th anniversary.

Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, and race day raffles will feature prizes from community sponsors. Participants should note that while the course is flat, it runs primarily on natural trail terrain including rocks, stumps, and tree roots.

Registration remains open through race day. Community members can register online at https://mercy.edu/news-events/events/conquer-trail-7.5k or in person on April 18. The first 75 runners who register will receive a limited-edition 75th Anniversary t-shirt and 7.5% off registration with code: ConquerMercy75. Today, ��app announced the launch of the Suzanne McGraw Scholars Program, made possible by a transformative philanthropic gift of more than $9 million from the Suzanne McGraw Foundation. The gift represents the largest in ��app's history and will support a groundbreaking initiative to prepare highly skilled early childhood educators while addressing the urgent need for qualified early childhood educators in the region.

“The Suzanne McGraw Foundation is excited to partner with ��app to address the urgent need to attract and train students for careers in early childhood education, especially for children with special needs,” said the Board of the Suzanne McGraw Foundation. “By providing scholarships and valuable work experience, we hope to create a model for addressing the shortage of qualified early childhood educators and to eliminate the crushing burden of student loan debt.”

Launching in Fall 2026, the program will prepare 25 new early childhood educators each year through a structured, work-integrated degree program. Suzanne McGraw Scholars will receive comprehensive financial support, dedicated mentoring, and robust professional development as they pursue Mercy's B.S. in Teaching Students with Disabilities (PreK–Grade 12) program. Scholars will also have the opportunity to continue into an accelerated M.S. degree in Early Childhood Education at no tuition cost to the scholar.

A distinguishing feature of the program is its earn-while-you-learn model. Scholars will work in early childhood education classrooms throughout their studies, gaining invaluable hands-on experience while receiving financial compensation. Upon graduation, Scholars commit to working in the field for at least one year, ensuring sustained impact in early childhood education when it's needed most.

Today, ��app announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Latino U College Access (LUCA), a leading Westchester County nonprofit dedicated to supporting low-income, first-generation students in their pursuit of higher education. The agreement establishes a collaborative relationship designed to expand postsecondary opportunities, strengthen student support and enhance financial accessibility for LUCA Scholars enrolling at ��app. The partnership also reflects ��app’s commitment to making higher education attainable by working to provide competitive, need-based financial aid packages to admitted LUCA students.

“This partnership reflects ��app’s mission to provide transformative educational opportunities for students from all backgrounds,” said Susan L. Parish, PhD, MSW, president of ��app. “We are proud to work alongside Latino U College Access in expanding pathways for talented first-generation students and ensuring they have the resources needed to thrive.”

“This partnership with ��app reflects our shared commitment to expanding access to higher education,” said Shirley Acevedo Buontempo, founder and executive director of LUCA. ”Together, we are strengthening academic and personal support for first-generation students in Westchester County and creating meaningful pathways to college and lifelong success. In partnership with ��app, we are creating pathways to higher education that reflect our joint belief in the transformative power of education — because when students succeed, communities flourish.”

Under the MOU, ��app and LUCA will coordinate outreach efforts to LUCA high school students and provide structured support for LUCA Scholars who matriculate at Mercy. LUCA will continue to support its alumni who matriculate at ��app through the organization’s Post-Secondary Program, offering mentoring, college and career advising, and when applicable, access to emergency need grants and other financial incentives designed to promote persistence and student success.

��app, in turn, will work to meet the full financial need of incoming LUCA Scholars by maximizing federal, state, and institutional aid. Additionally, ��app will host annual campus visits to introduce LUCA students to academic programs, student services and the broader campus environment. Mercy will also support LUCA programming by contributing subject-matter expertise and volunteers to initiatives such as College Knowledge workshops and FAFSA completion sessions.

The partnership holds special significance for students who have benefited from both organizations, as it formalizes a pathway they have experienced firsthand—one that combines early college access, sustained mentorship, and a supportive university environment to help first-generation students persist, graduate, and achieve long-term success.

“As an alumna of both LUCA and ��app, this alliance means a great deal to me,” said Karol Toral, LUCA and ��app alumna. “It represents a major step forward in expanding access to college education for the next generation of Latino scholars and brings together two organizations that were instrumental in my own educational journey. I look forward to seeing how this partnership empowers LUCA Scholars to pursue higher education with confidence, support and the freedom to truly spread their wings.”

Kevin Arpi, LUCA Scholar and ��app student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science, echoed that sentiment, highlighting the role both institutions played in his academic growth. “Transitioning from Westchester Community College to ��app was a pivotal chapter in my journey,” Arpi said. “I found mentors who believed in me and a community that fueled my passion for biomedical sciences. LUCA played a critical role in supporting that transition, and Mercy provided an environment that helped shape my aspirations and prepare me for the next steps in my career.”

With more than 25 years of experience in the advertising industry, Woodard brings a wealth of expertise in innovation, leadership and strategic communication to the University’s governing body.

“We are thrilled to welcome Larry Woodard to our Board of Trustees,” said Susan L. Parish, Ph.D., M.S.W., president of ��app. “His extraordinary professional accomplishments and deep commitment to community service make him a tremendous asset to ��app as we continue to prepare our students to succeed in a rapidly changing world.”

Woodard is a highly regarded advertising executive who has led agencies in creating breakthrough campaigns for a diverse roster of clients including General Motors, Motorola, Heineken, Sprint, Western Union, Comcast, GlaxoSmithKline, Kodak, Mars, Earthlink and the Snapple Beverage Group, among many others. His work has earned some of the industry’s highest honors, including two O’Toole Awards for Advertising Agency of the Year, a Gold Effie and the prestigious Cannes Gold Lion for the iconic Oprah Car Giveaway.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Woodard has been an influential leader within the advertising community, serving as chair of the 4A’s New York Council, a director of Advertising Week and a weekly columnist for ABC News. His thought leadership extends to frequent appearances as a lecturer and instructor, as well as media contributions on CNN, CNBC, ABC and the BBC. He is also the co-author of “Inside the Minds: Advertising as a Branding Tool” and “Point Me in The Right Direction,” a book of daily devotionals.

Woodard’s commitment to service is reflected in his long history of board involvement. It conveys the message that ��app is there every step of the way—ensuring students have the guidance, resources and encouragement they need to succeed.

Today, Excelencia in Education, a national leader in catalyzing institutional transformation for student success in higher education, announced that ��app has earned the Seal of Excelencia recertification. ��app is one of 18 colleges and universities to earn the Seal in 2025, reaffirming its place in a group of nearly 50 institutions that are taking responsibility for improving Latino, and all, student success.

Seal of Excelencia certified institutions produce outsized impact on student outcomes — representing less than 1% of all colleges and universities in the U.S., yet enrolling 16% and graduating 18% of Latino students nationwide, as well as enrolling 7% and graduating 8% of all students.

The Seal is a rigorous, data-driven certification, not an award or ranking. Institutions earn the Seal by going beyond enrollment to intentionally serve Latino, and all, students, and by taking responsibility and accountability for providing access to excellence. The Seal framework aligns data, practice, and leadership to move institutions beyond isolated programs toward systemic change and investment that provides institutional value to students, their families, and their communities.

Mercy is committed to serving and supporting Latino students intentionally, by creating the conditions that maximize their educational success. Today, ��app announced its recognition by U.S. News & World Report as a top performer on Social Mobility in the publication’s 2026 Best Colleges rankings. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Mercy has earned this distinction, underscoring the University’s ongoing commitment to expanding access and opportunity for all students.

“Being recognized once again as a national leader in social mobility — in the same year we celebrate our 75th anniversary — is especially meaningful,” said Susan L. ��app ranked in the top 17% of schools in the northern region for Social Mobility, which measures the graduation rates of students receiving federal Pell Grants. Mercy has earned a spot in the Social Mobility category since its addition to the Best College Rankings in 2019. This distinction shows Mercy’s commitment to ensure educational access and college completion for non-traditional students, including those who may be demographically underrepresented in higher education, demonstrate high financial need, or identify as first-generation college students.

This fall, ��app kicks off a yearlong celebration of its 75th Anniversary, honoring a journey that began in 1950 with a powerful mission: to provide access and opportunity in higher education. The 75th anniversary is more than a look back—it’s a year to bring students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community together to celebrate Mercy’s impact, progress and possibility.

“For 75 years, ��app has been a place where access meets excellence, empowering generations of students to transform their lives,” said Susan L. Parish, Ph.D., M.S.W., president of ��app. “This anniversary is not only a chance to honor our past but also to affirm our vision for the future as we continue to thrive and lead in higher education.”

From its early days as Mercy College, through its expansion to a four-year institution in 1961, its transformation into an independent, non-sectarian university in the 1970s, and most recently, its historic transition to ��app in 2023, the institution has been defined by growth, resilience and an unwavering commitment to student success.

Today, ��app is the region’s largest private minority-serving institution and a proud Hispanic-Serving Institution. The University has more than 73,000 alumni, serves over 9,000 enrolled students across six academic schools and offers more than 100 undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs. With campuses in Dobbs Ferry, Manhattan, and the Bronx, as well as robust online offerings, ��app continues to expand access and meet the demands of the current and future workforce.

The University remains committed to affordability, maintaining one of the lowest tuition rates among private, four-year colleges in the region. Enrollment continues to rise, with the incoming freshman class surpassing 1,000 students for the third consecutive year. This fall, we expect total enrollment to exceed 9,000 students for the first time since 2020, buoyed by growth in undergraduate enrollment. New student growth continues to be particularly strong in nursing, health sciences, and business, reflecting our commitment to preparing students for high-demand careers. Each year, thousands of graduates, many the first in their families to attend college, go on to achieve personal and professional success, a testament to ��app’s enduring mission.

Celebrating 75 Years Together

Throughout the academic year, ��app will host a series of special events designed to bring together students, faculty, staff, alumni and the surrounding communities.

The celebration will kick off with the Founders’ Festival on September 20, a campus and community-wide event featuring food trucks, live music, games, and activities for all ages. The day will include the dedication of a new commemorative clock on the Westchester campus, a new campus centerpiece, and close with a spectacular drone show lighting up the night sky.

Additional anniversary events will continue throughout the year, creating opportunities to celebrate, reconnect and look ahead.

Today, ��app announced the appointment of Matthew R. Manfra as vice president for institutional advancement, effective August 28, 2025. A seasoned leader in higher education advancement, Manfra has more than 20 years of experience in fundraising, alumni engagement, marketing and communications and institutional strategy.

“We are thrilled to welcome Matt Manfra to ��app,” said Susan L. Parish, Ph.D., M.S.W., president of ��app. “His experience and commitment to the transformative power of higher education will be instrumental in building meaningful relationships with our alumni, donors and stakeholders, and in supporting ��app’s continued growth and impact.”

“I am excited to be joining ��app and look forward to enhancing the institution’s fundraising and engagement efforts,” said Matt Manfra, new vice president for institutional advancement for ��app. “The University has terrific momentum, strong leadership and an incredible mission, essential elements for future growth and success.”

Manfra joins Mercy from Georgian Court University, where he also served as vice president for institutional advancement. There, he provided strategic leadership across all advancement functions, including fundraising, alumni relations, grants, marketing and communications, government relations and securing all non-tuition revenue.

Prior to his role at Georgian Court University, Manfra held several leadership positions at George Washington University (GW), most recently as senior associate vice president for alumni relations and annual giving. In February 2017, he was named interim vice president for development and alumni relations and led the team that completed GW's Making History comprehensive campaign. That $1 billion campaign was the largest in their history and was completed one year ahead of schedule.

His leadership journey also includes roles at Syracuse University, where he oversaw annual giving and alumni relations as the inaugural assistant vice president for alumni engagement; the University of Northern Colorado, where he served as assistant vice president for alumni relations and led efforts to reorganize the alumni association and Rutgers University, where he was responsible for engaging alumni and donors around the world.

A New Jersey native, Manfra began his career at his alma mater, The College of New Jersey, where he held roles in human resources, admissions, and advancement. He has held leadership and board positions with several professional and civic organizations, including the Council for Advancement & Support of Education (CASE) and the Association of Private College and University Alumni Directors (PCUAD). He is currently first vice president of the board of trustees at Ocean’s Harbor House in Toms River, NJ.

Today, ��app announced it has been named to Phi Theta Kappa’s 2025 Transfer Honor Roll, a national recognition that celebrates institutions that excel in creating supportive, dynamic, innovative pathways for community college transfer students. Mercy is among 251 colleges and universities across the country selected by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), an international honor society for students at two-year colleges.

“We are honored to be recognized by Phi Theta Kappa for our efforts to create accessible pathways and support systems for transfer students,” said Susan L. Parish, Ph.D., M.S.W., president of ��app. “This reflects our ongoing commitment to student success, regardless of where their educational journey begins.”

The Transfer Honor Roll is determined by 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost and financial aid, campus life for transfer, admission practices, and bachelor’s degree completion. It was based on analysis from the National Student Clearinghouse, and on data submitted through the four-year institution’s profile on PTK Connect, Phi Theta Kappa’s online tool designed to help students find their best-fit colleges and career pathways.

Today, ��app announced the appointment of James B. Jenkins as Chair of the Board of Trustees (BOT). A dedicated member of the Board since 2020, Jenkins brings a dynamic combination of professional experience, strategic leadership and heartfelt commitment to higher education.

“Jim Jenkins has demonstrated a deep commitment to ��app’s mission, and we are thrilled to welcome him as Chair of the Board of Trustees,” said Susan L. Parish, Ph.D., M.S.W., president of ��app. “As we approach our 75th anniversary and prepare for the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of higher education, we look forward to his leadership in guiding the university into its next era of innovation and impact.”

“I am honored to take on this new role and to support ��app at such a pivotal time in its history,” said new Board of Trustees Chair James B. Jenkins. “I look forward to working alongside my fellow trustees, President Susan L. Parish and the broader university community to ensure that every student has access to a high-quality, affordable education.”

Jenkins currently serves as president of Canachagala Corp. where he leads efforts in real asset management, including commodity trade, logistics, infrastructure, risk management, compliance and corporate governance. In addition to leading Canachagala Corp., Jenkins previously held several senior executive roles, including CEO of Westway Group Inc. from 2010 to 2013, where he guided the company through a series of mergers and acquisitions that resulted in its integration with EQT Infrastructure II and ED&F Man. Under his leadership, Westway became North America’s largest producer of liquid feed supplements, with operations spanning 31 locations globally. He also served as managing director of ED&F Man’s Commodity Services Division, president of ED&F Man Cocoa, Inc. and was actively involved with the New York Board of Trade’s Cocoa and Control Committees. Jenkins also served as chairman of the Cocoa Merchants’ Association of America and contributed to several of the organization’s key committees.

Over the past five years, Jenkins has served and contributed to several key committees on Mercy’s BOT, including the Executive Committee, the Academic and Student Affairs Committee, the Audit Committee, the Compensation Committee and the Development Committee. In addition to Board service, he has actively supported athletes, students and alumni alike—most notably through a series of workshops on personal finance and debt management for graduating seniors and alumni, which began in 2021. Beyond his work with Mercy, Jenkins has taught at higher education institutions including Fairfield University’s Dolan School of Business, Penn State University’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and the University of Connecticut’s School of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Jenkins is also deeply engaged in community service. He serves as chair of the City of Rye Finance Committee and was previously a board member of the American Red Cross Metro NY North, where he contributed to strengthening resilience and emergency preparedness across the region.

Jenkins succeeds Joseph Gantz, who retired as chair earlier this month after nearly 25 years of service on the Board of Trustees. Appointed chair in 2020, Gantz provided steady, visionary leadership during a time of growth and change for Mercy, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to university.

Today, ��app announced that its Bachelor’s degree program in Criminal Justice has been officially endorsed by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) for academic quality, a significant recognition that highlights the program’s academic excellence and commitment to student success.

“This recognition from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences affirms the strength of our curriculum, our commitment to student success, and the excellence of our practitioner-scholar faculty who blend academic rigor with real-world experience,” said Dr. Stuart Sidle, dean of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at ��app.

The ACJS Program Endorsement is awarded to select academic programs that meet the organization’s rigorous standards of educational quality and integrity. ��app’s Criminal Justice program underwent a comprehensive evaluation process and demonstrated excellence in areas including curriculum design, faculty qualifications, student learning outcomes and student support services.

In the endorsement letter to Mercy, Jay S. Albanese, Ph.D., chair of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Academic Review Committee, said “Congratulations to you and your faculty, staff, students, and administration on this remarkable achievement. ACJS Endorsement means that your programs have undergone rigorous review and are recognized by your peers as adhering to the best practices in our field.”
